Bamboo Bee-Hives

Developing the Bamboo-Honey value-chain.

The BLF has, in efforts to intensify the region's honey production, developed bee-hive prototypes using local resources (materials and skills). Bamboo (Dendrocalamus Latiflorus, known locally as 'Bhoo') was used in lieu of timber not merely as a low-cost alternative, but also because, unlike timber varieties like teak, the structure of bamboo is void of toxic deposits.

To be sure, bamboo has been an historical matter of fact to the bees of this region, Apis Cerena Indica, but this marks its use in making something resembling a Dadan-Blatt or a Langstroth Hive, with promises to increase the volume and frequency of yield to help bring the region's apiculture industry to par with the nation's.
